Hormone therapy involves taking natural progesterone, estrogen and/or testosterone to help ease the symptoms associated with menopause.

Hormone therapy does have risks for long-term use, but it can be especially helpful for many women who find the transition to menopause painful or uncomfortable. It can help prevent bone loss as well.

Systemic hormone therapy
Systemic estrogen can be taken as a pill, or used in cream, gel, spray or skin patch form. Generally, this is seen as the best treatment to end hot flashes and night sweats. This hormone therapy can also ease other symptoms that affect the vagina including dryness, itching, burning, and discomfort during intercourse.

Low-dose vaginal products
This treatment requires vaginal applications of estrogen to be taken in cream, tablet or ring form. This therapy is great for relieving pain for urinary symptoms, hot flashes, and night sweats. These products can also help protect against bone loss.
